On October 30th, 2022, the international educational campaign of the Russian Geographical Society "Geographical Dictation" will traditionally take place for the eighth time.
This week, the 5555th Geographical Dictation venue has been registered, which became the platform of the National Payment Card System JSC (NSPK), the operator of the "Mir" payment system. At this venue, 300 people will write the Dictation in a remote format.
Though, the Geographical Dictation is an educational campaign aimed at popularizing the geographical science, natural and cultural heritage of Russia, each participant is determined to earn the highest score. This year, the Russian Geographical Society will support this aspiration: all participants of the action, who will answer questions at in-person and remote platforms on October 30th, 2022, will receive gifts from the partner of the Russian Geographical Society, whilst special prizes await the "excellent students" of the Dictation.
NSPK participates in the international campaign of the Russian Geographical Society for the sixth time. The company also actively supports other projects of the Society, in particular, the "Mir" payment system supported creation of the https://kb.rgo.ru/ that allows everyone to take a virtual tour of the Konstantinovskaya Battery, one of the headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society.
Geographical Dictation has been held annually since 2015. Its participants anonymously answer questions about the geography of Russia. Over the entire history of the educational campaign of the Russian Geographical Society, more than 2.4 million people took part in it.
Since 2017, this event has become international for the first time. By 2021, 122 countries have joined the action.
The Dictation is written on all continents. In 2021, Russian scientists who work at two Russian stations "Progress" and "Mirny" in Antarctica also answered its questions. In 2018, this action of the RGS conquered space – since then it is held annually on board of the International Space Station.
Any institution can conduct the Dictation within its walls: schools, universities, libraries, museums, national parks, nature reserves and other organizations. The venue registration continues on the website https://dictant.rgo.ru/en. Those who want to register a venue can join the campaign until October 21, 2022, inclusive.
To date, the number of registered sites for the Geographical Dictation of the Russian Geographical Society exceeds 6,000. Applications have been received from 87 Russian regions, as well as 174 foreign venues have been registered in 84 countries. Sets of the brightest venues are regularly published on the campaign website.
In addition, Geographical Dictation can be written via the Internet. The action in a remote format starts on the website https://dictant.rgo.ru/en the same day and time as on in-person venues – that is October 30th, 2022, 12 a.m. (local time).
