Registration for "Geographical Dictation 2025" is now open

The Russian Geographical Society announces the opening of venue registration for the XI International Geographical Dictation. The major educational campaign will be conducted in two formats: in-person on November 30 and online for two weeks from November 30 to December 14. You can apply to conduct the Dictation on the official website until November 20.

For the eleventh time, thousands of places in Russia and throughout the world will welcome people eager to put their geography knowledge to the test. Over the years, the educational campaign has been carried out in every region of the Russian Federation and on all continents of the world. The dictation was held in the air, underground, underwater, and even in space, and this year's venues will continue to astonish with fresh ideas. As previously, you can write the Dictation in schools and universities, museums and libraries, nature reserves and national parks, trains and planes, and a variety of other spectacular locations.

Traditionally, the main variant of the Dictation has 40 questions divided into two halves based on difficulty level. A modifiedversion (20 questions) has been developed for non-Russian speakers and will be available in English. Materials can be translated into BRICS member states' and other languages upon request.

All Dictation tasks are based on the greatest questions from the "Write Your Question for the Geographical Dictation" contest, as well as materials supplied by the largest Russian corporations and Russian Geographical Society's overseas partners.

More than 4 million people from 136 countries participated in the campaign over its ten-year run. In 2024, over 635 thousand people wrote the Dictation at 10,000 venues. The campaign received the "Znanie. Award" (Knowledge.Award) in the nomination "For contribution to education in the field of "Ecology and tourism"" and was featured in numerous information events organized by Russia's Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs to strengthen interethnic unity and protect historical truth.

Since 2015, the Geographical Dictation has been held annually at the initiative of Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society. The educational campaign is intended to popularize geographical knowledge while fostering interest in science and national heritage.
